Robert's Journey - One of  Thousands

Robert's story is not just about a single student, but about the transformative power of neuroplasticity in the classroom. What began as a diagnosis of significant learning difficulties became a catalyst for a radical shift in his life. By challenging traditional educational paradigms and embracing a neuroplasticity-centred approach, Robert's journey demonstrates that every child and every adult has the potential to change their own brain through dedicated, compassionate support and innovative methods.

Through intimate interviews with Robert and his family and world renowned pioneers in neuroplasticity, we explore the science behind the story. This documentary invites you to the inspirational intersection of neuroscience, educational research and practice.

It is a call to action for the next generation of teachers and parents alike to look beyond the label and focus on the unique potential within every learner.

The Filmmaker

Larry Gilmore has been writing, directing, filming and editing films professionally for over
25 years. This is his first feature documentary.

Based on his son's struggles with a Learning Difficulty (LD) and the eventual defeat of that LD through the application of neuroplasticity, "The Boy Who Changed His Brain" is an inspiring and emotional film designed to bring hope to everyone. Larry was told that his son Robert would never be able to work or attend university, let alone finish high school. Yet against all odds Robert is free of the LD that plagued him and has proven those predictions wrong.

It is hoped that this film will inspire and give hope to anyone who has ever struggled with an LD. Further, it is hoped that teachers, schools, universities and special needs teachers everywhere will find the courage from this film to reach out beyond the accepted paradigm and broaden their skillset and knowledge to include the proven science of neuroplasticity in their professional lives.
